FIRST OF ALL

So much happened while I was barred from my blog by a heartless Google that I find it difficult to know where to begin.  Let me start with the spectacular election results from Tuesday.  At last we are seeing a groundswell of progressive activism at the local level.  Thousands of political novices are stepping forward to run for local and state offices, and many of them are winning.  There is apparently a nationwide uprising of women who have become politically active, some for the first time.  This is just exactly what is needed to change the direction of American politics.  I am not much exercised by the debate now rumbling up between the moderates and the progressives in the Democratic Party.  That is par for the course in politics.  Inevitably, we shall have to struggle against the Clinton loyalists.  They are powerful, well-funded, and for the most part full time professionals, which means they push their agenda twenty-four hours a day.  So be it.  For now, it is enough simply to enjoy winning.

Is Whitehead right? That's for you to say. Hopefully, it may be worth reading.

This election has been enjoyable in so many ways. Right now, it's the proverbial gift that keeps on giving. Most political junkies know that the Washington legislature is now fully in the hands of the Democrats with the victory of Manka Dhingra in the 45th legislative district. But even in the tiny town of Burien, Washington, a slate of candidates have apparently toppled a group of anti-immigrant city council members who'd sought to undo Burien's sanctuary city ordinance.

This was the kind of election we had on Tuesday: a few large victories gaining national attention, but lots and lots of small victories, too.
